The Weekly Report – Week 14

I have been a massive slacker but am going to do my best to make up for it here. Let’s recap the year that was. In the meantime, please enjoy this beautiful photo I created of TBB’s double trophy season.

Round 1 Playoff Preview & Picks

vs

#3 Sad Dads vs. #6 The Violent Beauregardes

  • ALL-TIME SERIES: Sad Dads lead the series 6-1.
    • Sad Dads average 149.24 pts in this series while TVB average 121.63 pts
  • PLAYOFF RECORD: Sad Dads are 3-2 all-time getting all three wins last year on their way to a title win. TVB are 4-1 all-time in the playoffs and their lone win against the Sad Dads came in the 2022 playoffs during their incredible championship run.
  • STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE:
    • TVB played (7) playoff teams and had a record of 2-5 in those matchups.
    • Sad Dads played (8) playoff teams and had a record of 3-5 in those matchups.

PREVIEW & PICK: 4 weeks ago, things looked a lot different. TVB was on the outside looking in while the Sad Dads appeared to be a lock for a 1st round bye and potentially the number 1 seed. However, TVB went on to put together a 7-1 record over the last 4 weeks cementing themselves in the playoffs before Week 14 was even played. On the other hand, the Sad Dads lost three straight matchups (to playoff teams) and ended the year on a bit of a skid with a 3-5 record which saw them drop to the three seed.

TVB have been the beneficiaries of an MVP campaign from old man Stafford, JSN’s meteoric rise and three handcuff RBs who have made the most of their opportunities while the RB1s were out. The Sad Dads have struggled at the end of the season due to a bunch of underperformers. BTJ has been a massive disappointment, QJ’s early success fizzled out as suspected, and Garrett Wilson’s injury (and the Jets anemic offense) only added to the issues. But no one gives a fuck what happened before this. All that matters is right now. Sad Dads have the overall “harder” matchups but their team, at least on the surface, is substantially better. It’s a matchup that has been largely dominated by the Sad Dads, but I think TVB has something very real (and very scary for anyone in their path). TVB continue their excellent form and snatch a 1st round upset over their brother-in-law.

vs

#4 Choking the Belichicken vs. #5 Trans Cigs

  • ALL-TIME SERIES: The Trans Cigs lead the series 4-3.
    • Trans Cigs average 122.88 pts in this series while the CTB average 128.54 pts
  • PLAYOFF RECORD: Neither team has ever made the playoffs.
  • STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE:
    • Trans Cigs played (8) playoff teams and had a record of 5-3 in those matchups.
    • CTB played (8) playoff teams and had a record of 3-5 in those matchups.

PREVIEW & PICK: Unexpected things always happen in the Super League and this matchup absolutely fits that mold. The Cigs have been the laughing stock of the league as they took the tank approach immediately while CTB have been able to sneak in the background as an equally horrible franchise. Coming into the year, it appeared that CTB would once again miss the playoffs while the Cigs had LOFTY expectations. Fast forward to today, CTB is the one who ended up having a pretty easy coast to the playoffs while the Cigs have endured a rather up and down year.

This is an excellent matchup and both teams are pretty even. The Cigs hold massive boom ability which comes with the inherent bust ability while CTB have been much steadier. They have 0 games this season with less than 100 points but have only had 3 weeks where they exceeded 150 pts. The Cigs have put in some massive duds but have 3 weeks where they exceeded 160 pts. They split the season series so this is a much warranted rubber match. This one is almost impossible to call. The Cigs have been in a decent flow state recently and almost always follow up a dud with a win so I’m picking them to get it done. Cigs for the boys.

Signing off,

Your Beloved Commissioner
